Colorado Springs Tourism

Most travelers in Colorado Springs are attracted to the surrounding natural wonders such as the famous Pikes Peak mountain. Colorado Springs has many hiking trails and national parks due to its proximity to the Rocky Mountains, making Colorado Springs a popular vacation destination for its beautiful scenery. With the Rocky Mountains nearby, Colorado Springs has also gained fame for its enormous rock formations and other geological features.

Colorado Springs Attractions

Pikes Peak mountain is one of America’s most famous mountains and one of America’s national treasures. Pikes Peak Toll Highway runs through Pikes Peak Summit House, Glen Cove and Crystal Reservoir.

Pikes Peak is home to a diverse and abundant combination of wildlife and plants. People have traversed Pikes Peak’s valleys and mountains for centuries searching for sport, natural beauty, education and enlightenment.

Approximately 6 miles from the tollbooth, you’ll come to the Crystal Reservoir. At Crystal Reservoir, you can pan for gems in the mining waters, take in the beautiful mountain and valley views, or rent a paddleboat and enjoy the views from the water. Half way through your hike, you can stop and take a break at Glen Cove. This will help you adjust to the high altitude while offering you the opportunity to visit a friendly restaurant and gift shop. As you continue your climb, you come across the Summit House, where you’ll come across a warm and cozy spot to enjoy world-famous high-altitude donuts, photo opportunities, a gift shop and the restaurant itself. Cave of the Winds in Colorado Springs

67% of the visitors to Cave of the Winds are repeat visitors and most of them say they will return again. When visiting the Pikes Peak area, we encourage you to stop to enjoy our hospitality for yourself. We welcome you and your family to come enjoy the perfect combination of relaxation, recreation, natural beauty, and history blended to create a vacation experience full of great memories and fun for the entire family!

Year after year, decade after decade, and century after century, water persisted against rock, leaving a crystalline trail of limestone sediments. As rock gave way to space, a cave was born. Cave of the Winds is an underground cave mansion full of rooms and passages, decorated with limestone stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstone curtains. Often called Jewels of nature, these limestone formations took centuries to form and are preserved for all to view and enjoy at Cave of the Winds. Nestled in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, this magnificent and scenic cave system records over 200 million years of geological history. Informed guides will lead you through one of three different caverns while explaining how they were formed and their history as one of Colorado’s most marvelous natural attractions.

Colorado Springs Vacation Rentals

Many who visit Colorado Springs prefer to stay in a privately owned vacation rental home or condo. A Colorado vacation Rental can offer a much more cost-efficient vacation over most hotels. This is because a vacation rental home can accommodate many more people than a hotel room and you can usually rent an entire house for about the price as a hotel room. Since all homes have a full kitchen, you can also save money on food by preparing your own meals at home. This savings can really add up when traveling with large parties or your family. So, for a low-cost, or even cheap Colorado Springs vacation your entire family will enjoy, consider a Vacation Rental instead of a hotel on your next Colorado Springs vacation.

Maui Travel & Vacation Activities

August 20, 2008

“Maui No Ka Oi,” means “Maui is the best.” Millions of people can’t be wrong, so pack your bags and head for Maui Paradise.

Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands with diverse amenities from laid-back but sophisticated Lahaina to small intimate little towns throughout the island. To explore Maui, rent a car at Kahului Airport (OGG) or Kapalua Airport serving West Maui (JHM). Renting a car is the most convenient way to get around but for those who don’t care to drive, Maui does have other transportation including tour buses, shuttles, trolleys, taxis, and city buses.

Maui’s Numerous Beaches

A visit to Maui will find you with 81 beaches, the finest can be found on the Western side of the Island in the Wailea-Kihei (the driest end of Maui) and at Lahaina-Kaanapali areas. The best snorkeling will be found around the rocky areas of the beaches where the fish feed. Many say that snorkeling around the Black Rock below the Sheraton hotel is the best.

Maui Activities for Vacationers

Experience the drive to the town of Hana on the famous Hana highway that leads you to the back of Maui. You’ll be in awe as you view the incredible Maui coastline and lush Hawaiian rainforest & waterfalls just outside your car window. There are many sharp turns on the road to Hana so traffic often moves slowly. Please allow adequate time for this trip by leaving early in the day. It’s also a great idea to pack a lunch with drinks for the outing. Another ‘Don’t Miss’ is Maui’s renowned Kaleakala Crater or the experience of watching the sunrise from the top.

Visit the old whaling town of Lahaina, which has about 30 art galleries and numerous shops & restaurants. Take a train ride and learn about the plantations on the 1890’s Sugar Cane Train traveling from Lahaina to Kaanapali.

Like the other Hawaiian Islands, Maui’s activities also include surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, sport fishing, submarine adventures, helicopter tours, jungle hiking, whale watching, and traditional Hawaiian luaos.

Whale Watching in Maui

Everyone who comes to Maui loves the Humpback whales that visit each winter. Surprisingly, the estimate is about 3,000 whales per year. This is a great chance to go on that whale watching boat you have been dreaming of. These whales can be huge reaching up to 45 feet in length and can usually be heard when snorkeling under water from miles away as they squeak to one another.

Beginning around the 1840s, the world’s whaling fleets gathered here in the winter months to trade with the natives and slaughtered about 15,000 humpback whales. Today, this is where most of the estimated 3,000 remaining humpbacks return to give birth. In the winter, it is quite common to see these whales breaching the water from Maui’s coastline, so be sure to bring your binoculars for an up close view of the show at any time.

Maui Vacation Rentals

More and more travelers visiting Maui prefer to stay in a vacation rental home or condo. A Maui vacation rental home can offer a much more cost-efficient vacation over most Hawaii hotels. This is because a Maui vacation home can accommodate more people than a hotel room and you can usually rent an entire house for the price of a single hotel room. Since most rental homes have a full kitchen, you can also save money on food by preparing your own meals. This savings can add up when traveling with your entire family. So, for a low-cost, or even cheap Maui vacation your entire family will enjoy, consider a Maui Vacation Rental instead of a Maui hotel on your next Hawaii vacation.
